Over the past Agile Development has integrated different groups (Developers, Business Analysts, Testers, Q/A, Database Managers) into the Agile Team. So why stop there? Since about a year, the term/movement devops has been gaining some traction. It has its origins in applying Agile techniques to System Administration. While development and operations are traditionally seens as cats and dogs, this session will highlight the (emerging) parallels between development and operations worlds.

But it also goes beyond that: as devops tries to bridge the gap that exists within organizations between these two groups, the session will explain the history of the Silos and how it links with Lean ideas as a way to align these two worlds.  Finally we will explore the boundary aspects and show examples of jumpstarting the adoption process within companies by translating the benifits to real business value.

Format and length: 60 mins presentation

Intended audience and prerequisites:

  • all people who want to improve their interaction with their IT department, or interested in devops
  • people managing infrastructural aspects of the development environment
  • release managers who want to improve the flow of releasing things to production

Objective(s) of the session:

  • Make people understand that the diffirences but also the similarities with system administrator agility
  • Tradition Agile works hard at creating a optimal way to create new functionality. In this session we hope to show them that this is chasing a local optimum. Unless your code is running in production without problems, you're not there yet.
  • Explain cloud is a great enabler, but there is another need for running things
